MAGAZINES COVERS AIDED DESIGN

Looking at the covers of the magazine Don Juan, and chart your progress, I gave myself the task of reviewing and looking for other journals such as Vogue, Vanity Fair, Blender, Cleo and Esquire, I particularly focused on the latter finding striking similarities between the covers of Don Juan and the covers of esquiere.

Here the examples:

Okay, I am inspired by the work of others, that are often made design, the brainchild of a designer on the other side of the world inspired a turn, a change up to something distinctive, but .. mmm ... until the lights?

Don Juan, has characterized this past year, by an amazing use of typography, a change So this classic work covers in Colombian journals, but to become a modern and distinctive magazine, goes almost to be a simple and bad copies of other ...

course
no one is exempt from the copialina, that by which teachers make great efforts NOT to promote, but in the country of the sacred heart seems to be daily bread, even in the Casa Editorial El Tiempo.

ESQUIRE copies himself to himself, I do not know if the cover is very old or because the editor found it very interesting to make a Re-make , Right, the original photo of the sixties, we see on the cover to Virnia Lissy, European actress, where it appears as if you were shaving in fact, on the other we see Jessica Simpson trying to shave ... but without the same vehemence .

Finally, and not to neglect the information of which is this blog, I will make readers consider the following points be considered in the design a cover:
technical information must contain a cover page:

· headstrong, name or logo is the name of the magazine (Vogue, esquiere, week, rolling stones)
· date, price (in several currencies as the country of distribution), edition number, bar code.

ALL of these items are not exempt from being designed and re-designed, look at the barcode, not a bulky box that disfigures my design, but as a complement, the magazine Emigre, code used bar as a complement to the design.
However, the journal should by definition, an image "shocking" that engages our audience, this is related for the artist, political, character, singer and a host of media personalities in front, which are of interest to the reader, of course, will be as the target audience, the kind of magazine that we are charting, information contained in the magazine will give us sufficient parameters to define even the typography of titles and bodies text.
Then, in order of ranking of ideas will come to accompany the image title and subtitle, which change color, scale and position as the importance of news items, articles, chronicle ... among others.
This can trigger an avalanche of typographical games subtitle and the designer must make the best drive, then think that's the problem graph, many titles little space. There is then the best way to solve it, here are some magazines Cool Solutions:

We would then say that we hide the text and play with them to the point of illegibility? Personally I think that we ourselves put these limits on illegibility, and we've spoiled our readers saying that things are not readable or you are not going to understand. A personal anecdote, recently delivered a fol eto l a client, this sent me an e saying that " ... design "Important note" hidden part of the text, check that it is legible. "Everyone understood it, read it perfectly, note the word was cut in some of its parts, and then the client tells me that eye, which is readable, then? Was or was not legible? , we are victims of our own visual defects.
Finally the condition of any home is to be visually appealing, beat the competition, it is not necessary to strip the 95% of women, "the visual hook" is then given by the graphic quality, for the concept, an example is the interesting cover of The Economist where Fidel Castro without showing the image relate to the resignation submitted today by the Cuban president, the image of the Cuban cigar, a typical symbol of this land, or at least that to us transmitted celluloid-off and accompanied by the title "Castro's Legacy" generate a conceptual idea and discussion on the topic, without being beaten handling the profile and image of the president.

Prevent Weave Tangling

or KINETIC KINETIC TYPOGRAPHY.

By: Sandra Garcia
known as Kinetic and Kinetic Typography, according to the DRAE:

Kinetic , ca: ( Del gr. κινητικός that moves). 1. adj. Phys. Pertaining to movement. 2. f. F ♯. cinematics. third F. Study of the rate at which certain processes occur; p. eg., chemical or enzymatic reactions.

could be defined as the ability Kinetic Typography that has the font to express emotions, movements, actions, only using the same font for the words and therefore encourage them into expressive objects by eliminating the role of mere reading, we read words like love or run to see run the words.

Kinetic Typography is this part of Boom typographical has been occurring in the environment, when resources are depleted, we realize that typography has always been there and we are taking today as ever his many expressive possibilities.

for the proper use of the visual appeal, we must above all be clear geometric and aesthetic characteristics of the typeface which we are working.

The Sound and the environment must be special indeed to the message we want.

Some fonts can create feelings of more or less stable, its geometric square shapes and help the designer to fit together or in some case studies in the video of the trebuchet, created by the design faculty of the Polytechnic of Milan, which studies the characteristics of typography revealing how practical this may be creating the design. (watch the video in sections 3 and 4)

The typography is possible variables and stylistic resources that expand their expressive capabilities, these resources are divided into scaling, sign cutting, bleeding, occlusion, kerning, spacing:

1 - Scaling: Scaling or handling of sizes is in short one of the most used in the middle, with this most important resource and we give emphasis on keywords within the design and in this case in the words of the song or dialogue. The scales are for the whole piece has a visual interest plain text does not convey emotions.

in this video the most widely used resource is the scaling of fonts, is a dialogue of a great movie Trainspotting, they are highly recommend :

2 - Court sign : Refers to the typefaces cut in any part without them losing readability, when we want to be a complete text still retain their meaning, these resources we owe a little at a time of Grunge design whose teachers Neville Brody and David Carson with Fuse and Ray Gun magazines, respectively, set a standard typographic experimentation, speaking of David Carson, I will refer to a statement made in the interview given to the Swiss film in 2007 said, pointing to some words printed in Helvetica on a blank sheet "to see where is the explosion, I I do not see the explosion, said explosion here and there is nothing, and this evening says (sunshine) I do not see! "this is it kinetic typography, words become active images, moving into action!, cut back to sign I present a video with some cuts of sign:

3-kerning: is the distance between points,

less distance greater adjustment between them,

are so to speak, but together each other, resource

visually interesting, both for application in Kinetic Typography,

as for use in editorial design.

4-spacing: is the distance between the lines,

as we shall see in this video have to be careful with this resource

same as the font size as well types

small video may not be legible. Video created by

Design Faculty of Milan Polytechnic where experiments with the spacing and kerning:

Citezen Video Cop Group:

There are other resources that are useful as binding, occlusion, bleeding,

but leave that for later when we talk a little

editorial design. These are not inviolable formulas in any design

thing is likely to be enhanced, modified or transgressed, since

visually mind fulfills its communicative purpose.

To close the left with which to my mind is the best use of

kinetic typography, as in the time , screams, blood, pain and

drop all the dialogue that occurs, this is a scene from Pulp

Fiction (another great film recommended):
